Popcorn, please!

Did you miss that must-see movie in the theaters but still want to see it on the big screen? Catch it before it reaches the video stores at the Briarwood Dollar Movies.

Current features include: The 40 Year-Old Virgin, Flightplan, Jarhead, The Legend of Zorro, Tim Burton''s Corpse Bride, Wallace & Grommit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, and The Weather Man. While this theater may not have the greatest selection, it offers the movies that were most popular at the standard theaters. Also, the low price of only $1 will allow you to splurge on goodies like popcorn, candy and nachos, or treat all of your friends to a good show!

If you're looking for newer releases or independent films, check out Showcase, Goodrich Quality 16, or the State Theater which is conveniently located right on campus! What better way to spend your Friday nights?!

Calling all bar stars...

Plan on sticking around Ann Arbor for a few days after finals are over? Spend your last few nights before the New Year at one of Ann Arbor's many bars. Touchdowns, Scorekeepers, and the Necto are just a few of the many available options for you and your friends to have a night you won't forget! (Or is it a night you won't remember...?)

Every night Touchdowns caters to a different crowd, so check out the website to find out when you can participate in pong games, watch college basketball, or start up a dance party!

Skeeps offers many of the same features, some of the most popular being dancing, darts and pool and is the place to be on Thursday nights.

If you aren't quite old enough to hit up the majority of Ann Arbor's bars, Necto admits anyone over 18 so you can still go out and enjoy yourself at this dance club--often referred to as the hottest night club in Ann Arbor!

It's the most wonderful time of the year...

The semester is finally coming to an end and finals time is just around the corner! Though it's still important to give yourself some study breaks, going to the clubs may not be the best idea if you have an exam early the next morning. Plus, with all of the snow we've been getting, it's a bit cold to be bar hopping late at night--gotta love Michigan weather!

SO, instead of freezing outside, why not do it indoors? Get yourself in the holiday spirit with Open Skate Night at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube! This sports center is located at 2121 Oak Valley Drive and along with public skating on Friday and Saturday nights, you can come check out the hockey games and synchronized skating competitions. Visit the website for more information or check out Lauren's blog for dates and times of on-campus ice hockey games.

Another great alternative to the Ann Arbor Ice Cube is Yost Arena, which also offers open skate nights on Thursdays and Saturdays.

So stop waiting and start skating!!!

In the mood for food?

I think pretty much everyone will agree that it's hard to find the time to make yourself a home-cooked meal when you already have finals and end of semester projects and papers piling up on your plate. Now that Thanksgiving is over and the leftovers are gone, it's time to start scoping out what's new in the restaurant department. And what better time to do it than on a night when you're already out on the town?

Lucky for you, Ashley's just came out with a new menu which offers many delicious choices including Thai Chicken Quesadillas, Belgian Ale Steamed Mussels, Terriyaki Chicken Salad and Cherry Stout Pork Tenderloin. In addition, the pub currently has 65 beers on draught so you can choose from Belgian and English Style Ales, Specialty Beers, Lagers and more!

Ashley's is located right on central campus at 338 S. State Street and is open Monday-Saturday 11:30am-2:00am and Sunday 11:00am-Midnight. Swing by for a quick meal before a late night out, or grab some friends (or make some new ones!) and come hang out at this premier multi-tap pub. Once you put those beer goggles on, it will be easy to see why Ashley's is the perfect choice for a night of food, friends and fun.

LOL-literally!

Everyone needs a good laugh from time to time and sometimes the lame jokes cracked by your econ professor just don't cut it. If you're looking for a night of fun and relaxation grab a few of your friends and swing by Improv Inferno on Main Street.

This, and every Wednesday, College Comedy Night begins at 8pm and is only $2 for students featuring the best improvisers here in Ann Arbor! AND if you stick around until 10pm you'll get the chance to show off some of your own talents during "Super Fun Karaoke"! Don't have the best singing voice? That's ok!-after enjoying a few of the drink specials you'll be sure to find your inner Mariah Carey and take the crowd by surprise...or maybe provide them with some additional comical entertainment.

So come out, enjoy the fun, friendly atmosphere and get ready to start laughing out loud-literally!

Be sure to check out the website for additional information about weekly shows and events.

Dinner and dancing

As you already know, life as a student at the University of Michigan is extremely busy, yet exciting. There are so many activities to choose from that it may be hard to decide where to begin.

After a busy day or week, it is always a good idea to go out and explore the Ann Arbor nightlife! In this, and future posts, I will provide you with a guide to evening activities and clue you in on everything from the most popular clubs and bars to the finest dining that AA has to offer!

If you like to unwind with a night of dancing, visit Studio4 on Fourth Avenue where every Friday is Ladies Night! Girls, that means you get in free before 11pm, and guys, this may boost the girl to guy ratio a bit and give you a better chance with the ladies. :)

Saturday is the Original Studio4 night where you can party to the grooves of DJ smooth. Anyone over 18 is admitted and cover is only $5!

With that low price, be sure to check out Main Street's famous restaurant row to enjoy a delicious meal out before a night of dancing and romancing! The choices are endless ranging from the cozy Cafe Felix to the more intimate and elegant atmosphere of Gratzi.

This is the perfect combo to eat, drink and be merry! :)
